IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LORD BUDDHA

Day 01 : Arrive Delhi

Meet at the airport on arrival in Delhi and transfer to your Hotel. Day at leisure.

Day 02 : Delhi - Gorakhpur

Morning breakfast in the hotel and proceed for sightseeing of Old and New Delhi. Evening transfer to railway station for train Vaishali Express to Gorakhpur. Overnight on the train.

Day 03 : Arrive Gorakhpur - Lumbini

Morning arrive in Gorakhpur by Vaishali Express and proceed for Lumbini by road. On arrival in Lumbini transfer to your Hotel. Afternoon Lunch in the hotel. Day at leisure. Evening Dinner in the hotel.

Day 04 : Lumbini - Kushinagar

Morning breakfast in the hotel and proceed to Kushinagar by road. On arrival in Kushinagar transfer to your Hotel. Afternoon Lunch in the hotel. Kushinagar - It’s here that the Buddha is said to have breathed his last words, ‘Decay is inherent in all component things’ and expired. Pilgrims now come in large numbers to see the remains of his brick cremation stupa, the large reclining Buddha figure in the Mahapari Nirvana Temple, the modern Indo/Japan/ Sri Lanka Buddhist Centre and the monasteries. Evening Dinner in the hotel.

Day 05 : Kushinagar - Patna

Morning breakfast in the hotel and proceed to Patna by road. On arrival in Patna transfer to your Hotel. Afternoon visit Vaishali, the capital of an ancient Indian republic. It’s the birth place of Mahavira, one of the Jain tirthankaras and was here that Lord Buddha preached his last sermon. There’s very little to see - an Ashoka Pillar (with its lion capital intact), a couple of dilapidated stupas (one contains and eighth of the Buddha’s ashes) and a small museum. Evening at leisure.

Day 06 : Patna - Nalanda - Rajgiri - Bodhgaya

Morning breakfast in the hotel and proceed for Bodhgaya enroute visiting Nalanda, which was one of the world’s great universities and an important Buddhist center until it was ransacked by the Afghans in the 12th century. Rajgir is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site as Lord Buddha spent 12 years here, and the first Buddhist council after the Buddha attained nirvana was held here. It’s also an important place for Jains, as Lord Mahavir spent some time in Rajgir and the hills are topped with Digambara shrines. On arrival in Bodhgaya transfer to your Hotel. Evening at leisure.

Day 07 : Bodhgaya

Morning breakfast in the hotel. Sightseeing Tour of Bodhagaya. It is the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in the world. The focal point is the Mahabodhi Temple. The Bodhi tree growing here is said to be a direct descendant of the original tree under which the Buddha sat, meditated and achieved enlightenment. Evening at leisure.

Day 08 : Bodhgaya - Gaya - Varanasi

Morning breakfast in the hotel and proceed to Varanasi enroute visiting Gaya. This is a center for Hindu pilgrims. Vishnu is said to have given Gaya the power to absolve sinners. Pilgrims offer pindas (funeral cakes) at the ghats along the river here, and perform a lengthy circuit of the holy places around Gaya, to free their ancestors form bondage of the earth. On arrival in Varanasi transfer to your Hotel.


Day 09 : Varanasi

Early morning go for a boat ride on the world famous Ghats of Varanasi. Ghats are the steps which lead down to the river, and where, at the two burning ghats, bodies are cremated. Back to hotel for breakfast and after proceed for sightseeing of Varanasi visiting Durga Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple & Benares Hindu University. Sarnath is the most holy of a Hindu cities, one of the major Buddhist centers. Evening at leisure.

Day 10 : Varanasi - Delhi

Morning breakfast in the hotel. Later transfer to airport to connect flight to Delhi. On arrival in Delhi transfer to International airport for onward journey.

LUMBINI
In the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal lies Lumbini, the birthplace of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who was later to become Lord Buddha. Queen Maya Devi of the Sakya clan was on her way to her parental home when she gave birth to the prince under a tree.

SARNATH
Ashoka Pillar
It was in the Deer Park at Sarnath that the Buddha gave his first significant sermons on the Middle Way, the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to his five fellow seekers who became the first monks of the order.

VARANASI
The "City of Light" as it is known, is probably one of the most important towns for Hindu pilgrims who come to the bathing ghats on the banks of the Holy Ganges.

RAJGIR
The state capital of Magadha at the time of the Buddha, Rajgir was where the Mauryan King, Bimbisara, was converted to Buddhism. Lord Buddha was especially fond of the beautiful Gridhakuta (Vulture Peak) for his meditations at sunset.

SRAVASTI
Sravasti was the ancient capital of the Koshala Kingdom, where the Buddha
spent 24 rain retreats, taught meditation on the full awareness of breathing and converted the dreaded murderer, Angulimala into Rishi Valmiki. The peaceful Jetavana park was presented to the Buddha by the merchant Anathapindika, who purchased it by covering its grounds with gold coins.

NALANDA
The monastic university of Nalanda was the foremost centre of learning from the 5th to the 12th century AD for metaphysics, logic, medicine, grammar and Buddhist scriptures and practice. Hiuen Tsang, the Chinese chronicler, spent many years here both as a student and as a teacher.

KUSHINAGAR
Reclining Buddha at Kushinagar
The Buddha died in a Saal forest in Kushinagar and attained Mahapari Nirvana at the age of 80.
