Steep rocky highpoints along its edges gives a breathtaking views of the valleys below.
The grasslands at Kanha covered with forests of sal, are teeming with varieties of wild life like deer, chital (spotted deer), chousingha, nilgai, the majestic gaur (Indian bison) and wild boar. This is 'tiger country ideal for viewing both the hunter and the hunted.
Tiger is a protected species ever since scientists started conducting studies on this rare and elusive Big Cat. Another landmark at Kanha is the preservation of the 'hard ground' barasingha the only surviving population of this Central Indian subspecies of deer. This was achieved by extending the grasslands, relocating villages and by increasing the habitat.
